Taraba Prime Japanese Restaurant

The renovation of the Taraba Prime Japanese Restaurant in Bangkok demonstrates a successful fusion of architectural preservation and hospitality. Completed in 2024, the project transformed the original structure—the first house on Soi Sukhumvit 20, designed by Pol Chulasewok and an early example of Thai Modern Architecture—into an authentic Japanese dining space.

The owners prioritized conservation, meticulously preserving historic features like the iconic sunscreen elements and the building's original traces. The interior layout was sensitively adapted to the restaurant’s requirements, optimizing capacity and comfort within the existing structure.

The design team created a luxurious, modern atmosphere infused with a humble Oriental spirit, using warm lighting and proportionate spatial arrangements that reflect Japanese aesthetics. This meticulous approach successfully blends the building's historical tradition with modern dining. The renovation saved a significant piece of Thai architectural history, allowing the landmark to functionally serve the community once more.
